Hello Sir I am an engineer and have tried something similar to what you want. I applied my model to normal stocks but it will also be applicable to commodities etc. The model was based on the theories to determine the strength of material and determined "stresses" in the market. This is similar to stress concentrations at e.g. sharp corners on a metal shaft where it will start to break when a force is applied. I also included the concept of fatigue strength i.e. a stock is not stressed beyond the limit that it crashes in e.g. a week but crashes after a certain number of smaller cycles over a longer period. I suppose you wonder how accurate this was. Well, it was definitely worth the effort. The amount of data that you have has a big influence on accuracy though. My brother works for DeBeers as a geo-statistician and is very clued up with the latest statistical models and mathematics. He however remains a sceptic and says that it is like flipping a coin. I will gladly assist you with this project since it is quite interesting to me.
