Managing Across Borders

Assessment Brief/Task Alliance Boots is a large multinational pharmacy-led health and beauty organization, with a globally distributed workforce of over 100,000 employees across a number of joint ventures and associates in over 25 countries. As the global pharmaceutical industry continues to expand into new international markets, a new paradigm is increasingly evident with a shift to emerging markets. Through the acquisition of Turkey’s largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, Hedef Alliance, Alliance Boots is aiming to capture this emerging market, and with a growing population of over 72 million, Turkey is one of the fifteen largest pharmaceutical markets in the world. Through this venture Alliance Boots faces a number of cross-border management challenges such as communication, cultural dimensions, ethical/CSR, technology, knowledge collaboration, innovation, infrastructure and operational resources. As such you are required to complete an analytical report supported by academic research focusing on the following three points: o Cross-Border Management. o Cultural Dimensions. o Ethical Challenges. 
 In completing your report you should draw on existing international management literature, academic research and theory to critically evaluate cross-border management, cultural dimensions and ethical challenges by analyzing and discussing the various approaches between the company’s UK base operations and the venture in Turkey. Based on your analyses, provide recommendations and justify the application of cross-border and cultural management models and techniques where relevant for Alliance Boots’ international venture. 
Your report should be guided by relevant theories and concepts and it is important to include academic research to underpin your analysis and critical findings where applicable.
