Research on a topic related with IE discipline Stage A - Proposal (10 points) Propose what to discuss in your final summer training report. Write a report which is at most one page. In this option, you are asked to write about a particular method or research topic in industrial engineering or operations research field. You can select your research topic based on one of the IE 2XX you have taken (Select the topic so that you will be able to answer all questions in Stage B). You are expected to benefit from journals like OR/MS, Interfaces (Informs Journal on Applied Analytics) and OR Insights. The proposal must contain at least 2 paragraphs describing what you want to pursue in your final report. You should support your proposal with at least 2 articles (Your final report should refer to at least 3 articles, 1 book other than your textbooks, and 2 web sources). It should be a concise statement. A feedback will be given after submitting the proposal within a week. Please continue working on Stage B only after your proposal is approved. The proposal is due October 25, 17.00. You can submit it before the deadline, receive feedback, and start working on Stage B earlier. Failure to receive an approval for Stage A by the end of October results in a grade of F in the course. Stage B - Final Report Part I. (90 Points) At this part, you are expected to write at most 8 pages report. You should use and refer to at least 3 articles, 1 book other than your textbooks, and 2 web sources (including the ones you have used for proposal). The requirements of the final report together with a sample outline is given below. A sample outline of your report may include sections covering 1. Introduction: (15 points) A definition of what you want to discuss referring to the literature The motivation behind selecting this particular subject 2. Literature Study (15 points) A literature review on the topic selected 3. Theoretical background (30 points) The techniques used at the articles you have selected Comparison of the approaches at the articles you have selected The relation of the topic with the courses you have taken Information on related software (if exists) 4. State-of-the-art applications (15 points) Information on the application areas Most recent advancements and applications on your topic Examples from real life about the companies implementing this method and the benefits observed 5. Conclusion and future outlook (15 points) Your personal view about significance of the topic Directions for improvement and/or new application areas
