Hello, This project/contest is based on trust and especially my knowledge. In the UK, people on lower income and other situations are provided social housing, also known as council house or a house provided by housing associations. When people have children/children move out etc. they find themselves needing to have an extra bedroom, or a bedroom less (as extra bedrooms means you have to pay bedroom tax). Once you've already got a home though, you will hardly get hep to get a bigger/smaller property so the councils encourage you to find someone to swap homes with. Currently [login to view URL] is the main website for people to find a mutual exchange. However, it has many flaws and a recent update makes the website difficult to use. So people are turning to using Facebook groups. There is a Facebook group that has over 50,000 members of social housing tenants looking to swap homes as [login to view URL] isn't a good website. However, on Facebook it is hard to find people as Facebook wasn't designed for this sort of searching. There are people on hundreds of home swap groups (and the one where there are over 50,000 members) and you can easily miss your ideal swap. Basically I am a tenant myself and I am trying to move closer to my parents but I am finding it really hard to find a swap. One is because [login to view URL] is a rubbish website and they still haven't fully activated my account. The other is because there is no other website to rival it! There is a huge opportunity being missed here. I need someone to help me build a rival for [login to view URL] which will help me and 10000s of other housing tenants! Okay this isn't a normal for sale/rent property website. This is a website for social housing tenants who do not own their homes but are free to swap with people providing their family size is appropriate for that property. Sometimes direct swaps aren't possible (e.g. someone in London wants to swap with someone in Birmingham) so [login to view URL] has a feature where it finds what they call a multi swap using their search engine. So person from London wants to move to Birmingham. But Mr Birmingham doesn't want to move to London. So they cannot do a direct home swap. Mr Birmingham wants to move to Manchester. So the website automatically finds someone from Manchester wants to move to London. So they can do a 3 way swap. Okay so how does the search engine know where these people want to move to? When each member fills out their details, they fill in their home size, family size, rent price, what they live in (flat, house, bungalow), where they want to move to (e.g. London or 50 miles from Birmingham or both etc.). The search engine should match up these things and find potential swaps. Members should also be able to find swaps themselves by searching property type, size and location (e.g. by postcode or city name). Members should also be able to upload pictures of their home. Members should be able to comment on each others ads and private message each other. Now here is the issue. I am young and don't have £1000. However what I can tell you is people pay over £20 a year for membership for [login to view URL] per year so even if 100 people joined and paid £10, that's £1000 right there and it's all yours! I don't want the money. I just want me and 100000s of other people to have a good website to use. Not [login to view URL] Also I can search for companies in the UK who want to advertise on the website (e.g. vans who will take your furniture from your old home to your new home). Once you are satisfied with having made your money, you can start to include me. However right now I don't care about making money for myself, I just want a good website. You can take all the money from it first for your work. You can do a trial and see how many people join and put google adsense on it so you can earn money from the first bit of traffic

I'm actually interested in doing this - the problem is getting the hosting together and paying the upfront costs. That and it would be a lot of work - like a *lot* of work to get a website of that scale. I'd absolutely be up for designing something of this sort as helping people out in such situations is something I would like to do. But the issue is I'm not well off myself, I have enough to get by but I'm mainly doing that by getting small payments here for doing server work on Freelancer.com - which isn't enough to be honest. Certainly not enough to have me dedicate a lot of time into something that (even though it could be huge!) may not actually pay off, being perhaps overly pessimistic but I feel that's being realistic too. Can you think of a way to crowd source this? There would need to be a way of attracting clients to it (I suppose if it's already popular for people to do on Facebook then it could be a popular thing elsewhere). But this sounds like it would become a full time job and the kind of thing I'd want to own at least in part. It could be a one man job but it would take a slightly long time. I'm talking around a week to have something extremely basic and then a month to have something a bit usable and then a year to have something beautiful and user friendly. And that's without imposing a subscription model. I love your idea - it's just I don't have the capacity at the moment to dedicate so much time to something for no payment as I go along.
