I need a PHP script that will replicate, in a better looking format, what I am doing with http://www.AltEnergyToday.com. In a nutshell, the site shows newsfeeds from custom Yahoo News newsfeeds and blog newsfeeds. Here are the problems with the current site. 1. It's a bit ugly. It needs to be cleaned up. 2. The way I wrote it, and I am not a coder, requires me to create a new php file for each new page and then update the sidebar. Not bad for a single site, but I want to do a lot of these sites. 3. It uses Carp Evolution, which is difficult for me to understand. My goal: I'd like to run several dozen of these "minisites" for various domain names of mine. In addition to cleaning up the design before replicating it, I want to make it easier to set up for each new domain. So here's what I'd like: 1. A better looking, but still similar format layout. I need more room in the left hand column though.. Everything must be simple CSS that is easy to understand and modify. 2. I don't need two sections in the sidebar - News and Blogs. Just one set of links running down the side is fine. 3. Whatever the first link in the sidebar is, will be my homepage - I want that home page to be the URL "[login to view URL]", not something like "[login to view URL]" if possible. 4. This is the biggie: When I create a new site, or want to modify a current site, I don't want to have to manually create a new page for each new sidebar link, and I don't want to have to manually add the link into the sidebar. Instead, I want to be able to simply make all the changes to a config file in the folder for that domain's minisite. I don't want to have to use MySQL to store this information, it's too much to worry about when setting up a bunch of sites. For each site, I am going to have to be able to specify the following information in a [login to view URL] file: * Website Title and all web site META information - for the home page. For each link I'll want included in the sidebar: * Page Link Order (the order of this link in the sidebar) * Page Link Wording (what goes in the sidebar) * Page Link Title (for the page source title, and for the heading at the top of the news column for this news display) * Page Link META Description (goes in the META for the generated page) * Page Link META Keywords (goes in the META for the generated page) * Page Link "Slug" (the SEO friendly page URL portion going after "[login to view URL]". i.e., altenergytoday/solar_energy or altenergytoday/[login to view URL] * Page Link Feed (address of news feed RSS or ATOM that will display when link is clicked.) I don't know how you want to handle this in a [login to view URL] file - however you like. You could have one line for each Page Link, like this for example: "1", "Solar Energy News", "Solar Energy News", "This is the description for solar Energy News page", "solar, energy, solar energy, renewable", "solar-energy-news", "http://whatever-the-feed-url-is" ...repeat for page link.... Or maybe you want to do it like this: PageLinkOrder: "1" PageLinkWording: "Solar Energy News" PageLinkTitle: "Solar Energy News" PageLinkDesc: "This is the description for solar Energy News page" PageLinkKeywords: "solar, energy, solar energy, renewable" PageLinkSlug: "solar-enegy-news" PageLinkFeed: "http:://whatever-the-feed-url-is" ...repeat for next page link... Or another method I'm not thinking of. Just make it easy for me to modify, use just one file, and do not use a database. So, when I wish to create a new site in a new folder for a new domain name, I will simply have to move over the files (config file, CSS file, and the script to run the site), and change the parameters in the config file. That's it. That's all I want to do. The script will put it all together: place the web site title into the header, place the links into the sidebar, create the pages necessary when a sidebar news link is clicked, etc. Now, I currently own a copy of Carp Evolution. If you are a master at that, then I guess you can use it. But, I find it very difficult to understand, if I'm going to end up going into it again someday myself it could be a problem. But use Carp if htat what you are good at. I'm open to anything that will parse both RSS and ATOM feeds. I'd like something that is tolerent of sloopy feeds and not choke on them, yet, powerful enough to give some basic options of what fields to display, how many characters to display, etc. I'm sure you guys have something that you use. If I need to purchase a product (that I can use multiple times with on license), I'll pay for it if it's good. In your bid, let me know what you will use to parse the feeds. Please understand too that when I saw I want to basically replicate my existing site, I don't mean replicate the ugly parts of it :). I mean replicate the functionality. But, please improve the look, the format of the news articles, and so forth. Remember, I want this script to be quick to set up a new site. Just update the config file and go!
