Visual Basic 6 experienced programmer wanted to continue working on my turn based 2-D strategy card game. It is not necessary to be experienced in games to work on this project. The battles are 1 vs 1 and played on a simple battlefield in turn based format. It is 2-dimensional combat with the closest comparison in how combat is handled is like playing a fantasy card game like "magic the gathering"...although more complex in terms of # of powers. Graphics are no more complicated than using picture boxes and masking. The use of UDT's is heavy. Very little API. This is a multiplayer game (no AI) but as of now I am looking only to get it to function as a single player (hot seat) game and the multiplayer functionality will be worked on later. There is already a framework in place with winsock for multiplayer play but it needs to be optimized and expanded upon. It is not necessary to be familiar with winsock for this project but it is a bonus. The game is coded with very basic techniques that any experienced VB program should be able understand and interpret without difficulty. Game code will be provided along with a list of tasks (with full details of how these tasks are to be done...including what code is to be looked at and where it is found). What specifically needs to be done is a variety of things. 1) Finding and correcting bugs and error handling. There is a good deal to do here and specifics on which bugs will be provided. 2) Optimizing code. There are memory issues and redundant code and things that I am simply not aware of. Require help in identifying and correcting these issues. 3) Added concepts & functionality. There are certain elements of the game that are not complete. These include small things like adding custom mouse events, to fixing forms with new graphic content, to changing the way mouseover information is showed. 4) Online code/winsock added. This is not required, as it would be something added after everything else is complete. However, knowledge in this area would be a plus. Here are a few additional details about the project: Note: I will send all code upon acceptance of bid. The specifics are a bit tricky, as my plan is to send small/large "little projects" to the coder (from the game of course) and continue to add more while the coder continues to work. Types of things I need done: There are about 150 "Rune Spells" that are complete but not fully tested. I would like to provide a list of these and have the ones not working be fixed so they work. Spells are pretty simple in the game in general and do not require any kind of graphics/movement. I need to make sure that when a user clicks somewhere they are not supposed to it does not error. I have a spellbook, character screen, and battlefield that are getting some UI adjustments design wise and graphically that will need coding adjustments. I need to have the "building your deck" form re-done...as I have changed the way the deck is built. Things like that. Oh, and let me know if you are willing/able to do online code. I use a lot of picture boxes and static 2D images. One thing I need to do is work on a way for these not to use so much memory. Otherwise, files are not a big issue. I am having other coder work on sound now...setting up a resource file. Animation is to be added and very simple as it draws right in picture boxes. I have the code framework for this already but needs to be added in designated places. I use 7-10 main forms with battlfield and lobby the prime ones by far. 30 or more modules...many thousands of lines of code. Very large and much larger than need be. A few small examples of bugs: Some things like when the user scrolls through the list of "cards" one card shows incorrectly at times and there is an error randomly. There is an error when a creature finishes a turn and it does not move on to next creature...sometimes. Clarity of code: I am an amateur coder and it shows. However, it is modularized and there is a very distinct and easy to understand structure. It is not commented. The novice nature code comes in many forms from using massive if/then statements and not using more efficient code practices. Because of this I would like the coder's opinion on what can be changed (in terms of helping memory issues and just eliminating waste), with me pointing out specifically where things are and what they do. I will provide as much information/help as needed to make it easy on the coder.
