I have a bunch of PDF files that depict airport diagrams.? These diagrams are correct to scale and include vertical and horizontal lines with latitude/longitude markers at every 30 second interval.? ? I need a program that will extract the pixel? location of these lines, along with the corresponding latitude/longitude, and stored the results in an XML file.
This project is ideal for someone that has experience with dealing with raw PDF documents.
## Deliverables
I have included a few sample diagrams.? I have about 700 total that need to be geocoded.? And these are updated every 2 months by the FAA, so will need to continually be re-geocoded.?
This is a sample of the output I'll need (using the KACT diagram, numbers are just estimated and based on 100% zoom level).? My end-game here is to be able to place these charts accurately on a map, so feel free to propose alternative structure to reach this goal if you have a better idea:
<Image>
? ? ? ? <Name>KACT - AIRPORT DIAGRAM? - [login to view URL]</Name>
? ? ? <Width>520</Width>
? ? ? <Height>795</Height>
? ? ? <LatitudeLines>
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? <Item degrees="97" minutes="14"? plane="W" X="175">
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? <Item degrees="97" minutes="13"? plane="W" X="454">? ? ?
? ? ? </LatitudeLines>
? ? ? <LongitudeLines>
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? <Item degrees="31" minutes="37"? plane="N" Y="299">
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? <Item degrees="31" minutes="36"? plane="N" Y="626">? ? ?
? ? ? </LatitudeLines>
</Image>
A really nice bonus would be the ability to extrapalate the bounding rectangle that surrounds the diagram, and determine the lat/lon of that rectangle.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how this project can be accomplished.
Ammendment: I added a PDF image to the attached file that highlights the exact information I'm seeking to? extract from these PDF files.
