Migrate SQL Express DB on local server to MS Azure

Hello! I am a MCSA SQL Server 2014 certified professional, with more than 10 years of experience in SQL related projects and tasks. I have completed similar tasks before successfully. I can complete your request in 3 working hours, at most. My fees are 35 CAD per working hour. I am available now, if needed. The bid specifies 10 hours as a limit, only in a worst case scenario.

Express doesn't have SSMS- so not possible to use DMA for migration. A possible approach may be backup and restore- but not an automatic process . Can import the database schema and data from a BACPAC file- basically extension of .BACPAC containing the metadata and data from SQL Express. So 2 steps needed: 1. Create a BACPAC file; 2. Import the .BACPAC file into Azure; But this is not an easy process to manage- database requires some re-engineering before the SQL Server can be migrated. Few T-SQL differences in DDL and DML resulting in T-SQL statements and queries that are only partially supported in SQL; also some features and syntax that is not supported ; Azure SQL Database is designed to isolate features from dependencies on the master database and the operating system. Need to manage this properly before migration. My concern is- you can't afford to remove SQL server database, while migration occurred- users may upload data this time also. With Transnational Replication- distributor synchronise data from the database to be synchronised while new transactions continue occur. As I am an early riser- start working with 9.30AM (IST) will be very easy and helpful for me. But until I check your database at least one time- unable to give you exact estimation hours. If I predict anything, may turn into a false commitment- and I don't want it.

Hi there, Greetings! I did come across this situation in couple of projects (both internal and for our Customers). We ended up writing a script (windows app) to read the SQL Express DB and migrate each table on to Azure SQL. Typically, with a 700MB data size, am anticipating about 24hrs (about 3 days) to complete the migration. While the migration is on you can verify the data by sampling so that we know if all is well. Are there any stored procedures within the SQL Express - and how is it being used today? I request a connect from you to discuss more on this requirement and the migration.
