We are in the building industry - we normally manage 4 to 5 jobs at once- we find that we have difficulties managing the inventory of about 1000 pieces of tool, their location, quantity and repairs. We require a database to manage all our tool and consumable goods - this project is stage 1 or 10. We are looking for a person that can build this database, understands the building industry, and willing to build future modules to add-on. We require an Asset Register Database system built to suite our organisation. a- It must have 4 pools Warehouse, vehicle, site job and repair. b- It must be a barcode based system with in and out log c- Variable calculations of depreciation of assets. d- Live asset history e- Asset to job tagging f- Inventory report at a glance (single pane of glass) - 5 reports minimum. We have been reviewing a program called WASP [login to view URL] this program covers 80% of our needs but we require more.

I’ve read your brief and suggest to develop a MS Access database for your requirements. I have already developed many of your requirements for a customer from the IT business and can deliver a solution with database, forms to edit the data and reporting in a very short time. I have 20+ years software design and development experience, specializing in database driven applications. I have an extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials flow having integrated my previous employers main supply chain within its internal systems. I have used this experience to build systems that deal with production scheduling, pallet tracking, rostering and timekeeping, reporting and workplace health and safety, examples of which can be found in my portfolio on this site. I have a substantial framework in place for rapid development of complex applications on SQL databases, complete with a full security model, allowing for individual user login, group security and security auditing. The framework is robust and has been in use for some time. I have had some barcode experience, previously building a user input for electronic entry of hours. I plan to build a flexible and configurable asset register that, Allows for any number of asset pools, and any number of asset locations within these pools. Allows for jobs to be tied to asset locations, and moved between locations if necessary Allows for assets and consumables to be grouped by type, with definable parameters by group or individual item. Logs all movements. I have a variety of hard-earned experience in finance, software development, project management, OHS, Quality Management, Scheduling, Mobile data collection, troubleshooting, data analysis and problem solving. I'm Australian based and have plenty of experience in the local building industry. I've built several systems just like the one you propose. Some things to consider: - Are you running this system on any mobile devices? Consider RFID tags, or QR codes or you will have to find a way to deploy barcode scanners across the company. - Consider tracking the GPS on mobile devices to provide better information about the location of sites and service vehicles - Add safety inspection of equipment and calibration records for measurement devices to the system from the start, it makes OHS compliance much simpler.

I can design a Microsoft Access database for you that can track the inventory for company. I have developed an inventory database before where all the IT department equipment was documented. This database tracked device type, serial number, location, employee assigned too, cost, year purchased and much more information. I also created reports query that you could run to view data and print out if needed. I could design and similar Access Database to meet the needs of your company. Since this is stage 1 of 10 this would be a good start point to grow from.
