Digital recorder driver

My boss owns a few? Olympus VN-4100PC digital recorders, which have a very bad-working proprietary software. This software is neccessary for downloading files to the pc through Windows, but usually it crashes at its? opening. The device itself is not being recognized as a removable disk, which would solve all problems. If someone can write a new driver, or whatever is needed to use this devices as removable disks, I would appreciate it a lot. (There has been an attempt? by some people to? write a driver for linux, which is called odvr. Maybe this could be used as an example, since the company is not offering the source of its driver or any other help to solve the crashing problem.
