Not sure if this is even possible. Looking for a circuit that can power on an arduino device based on a tiny amount of voltage. The ultimate goal is power savings. An LED generates a small voltage when exposed to light. I'd like a circuit that can detect this voltage and trigger an arduino to power on when it does. I don't want to use the arduino to poll the led, but instead have the circuit you design (maybe using capacitors) to power on the arduino. Ideally it would not draw hardly any current. Really don't know much about electronics so maybe it's not possible.

Dear Valued Employer, My name is Martin Botsov and I am an engineering physicist with extensive experience in the field of circuit design, circuit prototyping and PCB design. As I understand from the project description you require a custom powering circuit to be developed. Now, I thought on the problem I have to general ideas that may work: a simple driving circuit using conventional power supply (if it is available in your particular configuration); a bit more sophisticated circuit using now power supply, but harvesting energy from the light detection source. I am afraid that the project description you've provided is a bit unclear to me (for which I apologize). Thus, I believe a further discussion would be much useful in terms of clarification and exact circuit requirements and functionality. I could continue talking with an exact workflow and how the whole job would be carried out but unfortunately, this message has character limitation, so I will have to stop here. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions regarding any details around your project. You could also check out my profile on Freelancer and LinkedIn for more details around my professional experience. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time. Kind Regards Martin Botsov

Hello. As I understood correctly, when the LED is ON, arduino also must be turned ON. And when LED is OFF, arduino also must be turned OFF, or go to standby mode. Yes, it is possible to do. And I can do this. Best regards, Roman.

Hi, Yes, is possible to built a circuit to resolve your problem. I will use a photoresistor as base element and other electronic components. But, always we will have a consumer of current, the important is that this current will be the lower possible for example: 1 to 3 microamperes or less. This consumer of current is sufficient for your requirement? I will hope your feedback.. Have a good day!

Hello, I have been involved in projects for electrocharging systems from any source including light, RF sources, and other cosmic radiations. In my opinion and based on my experience, you can use no power source at all to power up an arduino But it all depends on the other connected devices, surface available to place energy gathering devices and, of course, the budget. If your project allows, I would suggest power feom 3.3 V coin battery plus a small sun charging device. Looking forward to work together, Gus

I have experiences in building the specifications you need. You will just have to update me in detail what you need and I will design for you. For power saving, I do not recommend using Arduino, as it will complicate the matter without sleeping feature. I suggest another micro-controller revolving around MSP430, which is quite inexpensive too.

I am experience electronics, firmware and software designer. I can help and have specific experience. This includes opto-electronics, I have used LEDs as detectors, in particular for scanning interferometry. I dont think this is the best choice but I could help. The design will need an excellent low power design which I have experience in, with a 5 year + battery life. The design needs it own very low power hardware polling, and comparator stage to initiate the power up. This needs some clever aspects to make sure the signal is reliably detected. I have also experience of other sensors, Arduino, ESP8266, CC3200. With my own small design company in the UK. We are very much a "Can Do " company and can provide a solid solution. Please contact us to discuss this further
