I am trying to design a simple, variable, constant DC current source based on the LM334z. I have achieved this using a 4 position selector switch to change Rset, however I would prefer it if I could do the same thing using two buttons instead. Button 1 (up) pressed to select position 1,2,3,4 and button 2 (down) pressed to select 4,3,2,1. The circuit will be powered by a 9v battery. I would like to have 4 LEDs to indicate the position that has been selected. I have no idea whether this can be achieved so any feedback will be appreciated, thanks.

I could complete this project using logic ICs or microcontroller, whichever you wish. The microcontroller solution would be smaller but a little more complex as you have to program the microcontroller, however doing this with digital logic ICs would require a bigger space and more component count, however it is fairly easier to get it working.

However instead of starting from scratch please send me your current circuit to see how best to modify it to your new requirements. I assume that each press of the up button would cycle through current sources 1 to 4? I can make this DC current source with LM334z, a few transistors, a register and two buttons. I would provide you with a detailed schematic, bill of materials (list of components used), and a detailed explanation of how said circuit works. Before I begin, I would need to know which four current levels you want. Also, do you intend to build this device on a breadboard or you want to make a printed circuit board.
