Background: This Adapter is mainly to be used with 1980’s computer and game consoles, the Apple II series in particular. The Adapter should be able to take NTSC and PAL Composite Monochrome, Composite Color, Digital RGB (CGA), and Analog RGB, and covert and display it on a widest variety possible of (international) modern displays. The Apple II series has an odd video standard. Their Composite and Analog RGB output is slightly different than what the industry standards were. This needs to be accounted for in the Adapter’s design. Differences are documented online, and I can provide additional links and clarification if needed. This project MUST be able to reproduce video artifacts, also called “color fringing”, when displaying color on a modern display. In short – this means when one color pixel was displayed adjacent to another color pixel, a third color would be produced. Many programs and games used this feature to expand the limited color pallets available on the old computers. Project Scope: You will provide project source code and electronic schematics. All work will preferably be housed on my Google Drive for collaboration, backup, and version control. PCB layout work is NOT in-scope work, however if you can provide this service or know someone who can, please let me know and you will be compensated accordingly. Similarly, this project will require an enclosure which is NOT in-scope work, however if you can help here was well then you will be compensated accordingly. Review similar existing project - [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] I am unsure how complete this RGB2VGA project is, however from the youtube demos it seems very complete. This project however DOES NOT account for Apple’s Composite Color or Analog RGB, however it does reproduce color fringing and line doubling pretty well. The RGB2VGA project is based on the DE0-NANO board. I am working now to assemble the RGB2VGA project and we can use this as a proto platform if it helps. I am open to using a premade board if suitable options are available such as [login to view URL] This has some additional info as well: [login to view URL] Please feel free to recommend something similar as the System on a DIMM. Working with a separate TQFP CPLD/FPGA, SRAM, and support parts and creating a custom PCB is also fine, and probably the direction that will be needed. Review attached document for full project Scope. Not enough room here. I also have several other projects that I would like assistance on. We can discuss those projects separately, and I’m open to working on several projects at once since downtime between PCB revisions can take a while.

Hello, I have both extensive FPGA experience and *lots* of experience with the computers in question (I was a child of the '80s, what can I say?) I worked for Lattice Semiconductor (the #3 worldwide FPGA manufacturer) for three years and learned quite a bit about both programming the devices and the inner workings of same. I can provide PCB layout (even though you say it's not in scope), and depending on how complicated this turns out to be (I really don't see it being too hideously complex; I envision something like a dongle that adapts between the two connectors). It's something I do quite well: if you contact me I can provide various samples of work I've done in the past. Reproducing color fringing (Apple II and such, right?) is not a problem either. Really it'd just be a question of adding a delay of one pixel so that the adapter can modify the output color as necessary. Keeping files on your Google Drive is not a problem, however I use Dropbox mainly and if you have no objection I'd sooner share a folder with you: that would do the same job of keeping our files synchronized without adding yet another file-system monitor running in my background ^^ Hope to hear back from you! Best regards, -- Chris Bethea
