Greetings! I am a native speaker of English with experience as a public relations writer and freelance journalist. I teach writing classes at the college level and have just published a textbook on writing for undergraduate students. I hold a PhD in philosophy and an MFA in Creative Writing. Both of these academic programs are writing intensive and require book length thesis assignments. Recently, I have revived my career as a freelancer, but I have edited academic papers for the VA in such fields as psychiatry and gerontology. For several years, I worked for an ophthalmologist in the Little Rock area, for whom I edited, revised and proofread medical textbooks, conference presentations, web materials, and personal correspondence.

As a board certified family medicine physician with over 6 years of clinical experience, I am knowledgeable in the pathophysiology and treatment of a wide variety of acute and chronic diseases from infancy through adulthood. For the past year, I have been working primarily as a hospitalist physician, which has further exposed me to acute illness and surgical procedures. I also have graduate level training in statistical analysis, which has allowed me to effectively review and summarize scientific literature accurately. I entered the medical field with a passion for patient care and I believe medical writing will allow me the opportunity to influence the health of a larger number of people both nationally and internationally. For the past 6 years, I have summarized complex medical evaluations, diagnoses and treatment methods for my patients on a daily basis. In my quest to provide better patient care, I began developing patient handouts to accompany my visits and authored a blog article for patients on the Bend Memorial Care website.
