The Alarms Manager system could be divided in four major components: a component for data acquisition, based on OPC standards and specifications, a component for validation against set conditions, a component for publishing, that manages and fires alarm to specific user via predefined media, and a last component to store data from alarms firing and configuration. The system exploit two major screens one for alarm configuration and condition related settings and one to show configured alarms statuses in real time and to view history log.
Main features of the solution covers the configuration of new alarm, the modification and its suppression. The Comparator process uses real-time data acquisition and validation against set conditions, modify alarms statuses if needed, and publish alarm specific messages signal to many medias type. The system allows to set communication preferences per user, log historic alarm and notification and predefined report generation.
The use of an OPC server simulation, as a test bench, and the SDK « OPC .NET API 1.30 » from OPC foundation are mandatory for the acquisition module. C# (C-sharp) of the Microsoft Framework 2.0 is the chosen language for this project.
