Academic Writing Film paper

Here is your chance to go much broader and much deeper. Develop a thesis and support it with an argument. You are expected to use at least three academic sources beyond your assigned readings. Use the same list of films (you are not permitted to write on the same films you chose for your two analyses). Though the aspects listed below are certainly viable, you should ask larger questions. You might consider genre, auteurs, a study based on industry/economics, history, socio-political contexts, issues of adaptation, etc. Some aspects you might examine: Consider the main conflicts. What values are suggested? Are there major patterns in the film? Consider the beginning and closing images of the film. Do they suggest anything about the themes or values? Consider the questions or points from your readings in light of the film itself. Consider the films screened in class from a comparative approach. Are there similarities in style, theme, or ideology? If they deal with the same issue/topic, do they differ? How and why? Examine the film from an aesthetic perspective…thinking about narrative structure and cinematic elements. To what effect are they used?
