Event Espresso Wordpress Plugin Modification (make mobile responsive + additional features)

One thing this job entails editing an add-on for the plugin EventEspresso. Event espresso is a core plugin for selling tickets to concerts, events, venues, etc. It comes with various add-ons (pluglins) for expanding its capabilities. A few of those add-ons are a ticketing add-on for printing tickets, mailchimp add-on for newsletters, and many more. But the main plugin we are concerned about is the seating chart add-on. The seating chart add-on allows for selling individual seats to an event, so that when you buy a ticket you are assigned a specific seat number. When on desktops or large screens, the seating chart pops out and allows you to click on your desired seat. The issue with this seating chart plugin is that it is not responsive for mobile phones and tablet devices. For the project we are working on now there are approximately 2900 seats and that obviously causes a very large seating chart to fill the screen. So initially, it takes a few seconds to show up on the screen, and we need it to load much quicker. The current seating chart as it is presently shows all sections A-F and sections 1-15 including all the nearly 2900 seats on the screen at the same time for selection. This once again, causes the seating chart to take a while to load, and on mobile phones and tablets it is simply very difficult to manage as the user has to scroll from side to side and up and down.

So, we need to come up with a solution. The way the plugin creates the seating chart is by the user uploading a .csv file with a list of all the levels (floor1, floor 2,etc.) , sections (A-F, 1-25),rows, seats, prices, etc. So, I have given this much thought and can think of two possible solutions:

Solution 1:

One solution is that instead of the entire seating chart showing up on the screen, perhaps there should be a dropdown menu for each level. Then, each drop down menu should display a list of the various sections. Then, once a section is selected from the drop down menu, then the seating chart for that specific section will show up where the user can go ahead and select a seat.

OR perhaps we can move on to solution 2:

The second solution would be to have a jpeg image of the stadium and the various sections. The user would then simply select the section they want to be in from a drop down menu, and then, based on the excel spreadsheet; the best possible seat within that section would be selected. Of course, you would have to re-code the seating chart add-on to select the best possible seat from the excel spreadsheet which is why I think solution 1 may be easier.

Now, I have set a budget of $50 USD - $100 USD, but please bid what you think it will take to get this done. Overall you would have to edit/re-code the plugin to work with solution 1, and you would have to make sure it runs smoothly with the core plugin and the other add-ons. Currently the plugin runs well with all the other plugins but once you edit it you will have to make sure it continues to work well with the other plugins. One thing that I will note about the seating chart plugin is that it allows me to make it so that some of the seats on the seating chart never sell. They show as “reserved” or some variation so that they cannot be purchased. When working on the plugin, it is important to keep that functionality.

With a preference for solution 1, the solution chosen will have to accommodate future venues meaning t hat it must work with many types of seat numbers / seating plans.
