Erase backgrounds from product shots

I have 650 low res product shots of antiques and artwork of varying quality, already sized as JPEGS to 195 X 177 px. Most of them were shot on a grey seamless or table top; some were shot on white seamless but display shadows. I need to have the backgrounds replaced with pure white so that the products can be displayed floating on a white background. The files must be edited and saved with the same file names and pixel dimensions. If some images are too poorly photographed, they can be omitted from the project.
