AJAX fix to update # of item in shoppingcart on WordPress

We have a site currently running in WordPress latest version with the full version MarketPress plugin. A theme called SimpleMarket is used as the parent theme of the site. There is a MarketPress function called mp_items_count_in_cart(), which is used to display the number of items currently in the shopping cart. But this function does not make the number update instantly.
I would like to make this function somehow works in AJAX way so when I click "add to cart" on a product, the number can update instantly with the current theme.
This function, when using in a different theme called FrameMarket, is working perfectly to update the number instantly at its demo site's header.
