Contest Brief

We are a growing consulting company organized around self-managing teams who deliver innovative business and technical solutions to enterprise clients. We are planning on creating an internal application, so teams can visualize the skills they have or lack across members. Gamification is expected to encourage cross-functionality and promote skills that we believe are important for our business.

Through this freelancer contest, we are looking for UI designs to use in an upcoming prototype of this application. The submissions needs to include:

1. A screen that shows the distribution of skills across a team of 3-9 members.
2. A variant of the team screen where members can agree on important skills to prioritize next.
3. A screen showing the skills of a given team member.
4. A variant of the team member screen that shows the skills contributed to the team by its other members.
5. A variant of the team member screen where they can indicate they have started OR finished learning a new skill.
6. Illustrations of how users navigate between the screens above.
7. High-resolution images we can leverage when creating an HTML5 prototype.

The user experience of the winning submission will hopefully drive people to:
- Spend more time on developing skills across their team.
- Prioritize the skills which are important to our business.
- Identify themselves more with their team and the company.

The attached hand-drawn concepts illustrate the various elements we are considering to include in the gamified application. Feel free to use them as a starting point for your design or propose alternatives.

1. Name of the team member and name of the team.
2. Skills recognized externally, such as industry certifications. For examples, see https://academy.pega.com/certification-paths and https://www.scaledagile.com/certification/about-safe-certification.
3. Skills assessed subjectively (for example: agile, lean product management, DevOps, Pega platform, Pega CRM). We have not yet defined the exact structure, but are considering either a game-like tech tree or a self-assessment on a scale of 1 to 10.
4. Experience with specific techniques we use with our clients (for example: design sprints, innovation sprints, program increments, discovery workshops, Pega DCO, digital support). It may be worthwhile to differentiate if someone has been through each technique once, more than once, or not at all.
5. Additional gamification elements such as XP points, levels and ranks. We have yet to decide what to include and how to link them to skills.

Employer Feedback

“Pablo submitted the winning entry to our gamification contest. He used the feedback provided to his earlier entries and extended his submission to cover all our requirements. The handover went smoothly, although he was not available immediately after the contest end.”

A winning entry must include the 7 elements listed in the contest description.
So far, none of the submissions are complete. They are focusing on "a screen showing the skills of a given team member." There has not been any submissions showing "a screen that shows the distribution of skills across a team of 3-9 members."

    Dear Contest Participants,
I would like to reiterate that a single screen rendered based on the hand drawing attached to the contest does NOT meet our requirement.
As stated in the contest description, submissions should focus on the of use gamification to encourage members of a team to discuss what skills they or should have across the team. For example, they may realize that they have fewer DevOps skills than Pega or Agile and decide that one of the team members should sign up for a DevOps training.

We could not find a gamified application that meets our need, so we want to prototype one ourselves. We will use the results of this contest to get a head start. The winning submission will be based selected for its game design principles and less on graphical aesthetics. If you need to read up on gamification, you could start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamification.

      Hi Farhana,
We are not looking for photoshop versions of our own wireframes. Instead, you should propose your own wireframes or screen mock ups that illustrate how to best design the described application with gamification elements.

    Dear Contest Participants,
Please note that we are not looking for the attached hand drawings to be redone in Photoshop. Those were to illustrate the concept.
The description lists 2 screens and 3 variants that need to be provided to win the contest. You need to design these from scratch, using your game design skills and the context given in the description.
    Thank you for your participation.

PSD is fine, if the layers are clearly identified. Otherwise, a set of PNG is acceptable too.

The first prototype is definitely going to be built with an HTML5 front end. We have not decided yet whether other channels, such as a mobile app, might be better.
