Contest Brief

Hello to all Designers and Architects!

I am an American living the African dream with my wife and daughter. I am looking for architectural design ideas and plans for my dream home to be built on a 10 m cliff overlooking the West African coast.

Deliverables to include:
o Plan drawings in appropriate scale.
o Section and Elevation drawings where needed (in appropriate scale)
o Perspective Views where appropriate

Please make sure to read the attached specs and review the plot plan.

The design should be as cost effective as possible using local materials as the construction budget is limited. Just let your imagination run wild and dazzle me with your creativity making the most of this unique plot.

The selected winner may go on with the design development of the villa.

Hello! Would it be possible to extend the deadline for a few days? I know it can be inconvenient, but it sometimes results difficult for us to find time to get these projects done with the care and attention they need. #extended

I'm working really hard in a Proyect, it's almost done. I take in consideration all the factors, local materials, how the house will react to sun and wind cooling the space without using electricity, taking into account how the inhabitants will live the space. The design is done but sadly not the documentation. With a contest extension of some days I can finish it and I'm sure you will love it,
Thanks for your time and sory for any inconvenience, have a nice day.

One last minute question, I sincerely have no idea. Do the bathroom fixtures in Senegal (like in most French influenced cultures) normaly include bidets, or do we design the bathroom “USA-styled” with toilets only? Kinda strange question, but Google isn’t cooperating with me today. Thank you once more!

Hello, I only have one question. Can I ignore the columns that are on the ground to propose the new columns or should I respect the existing columns and design on them? If we must respect the existing columns, could you give us the measurements of his location in the plot please?

Hi Arturo, Yes you can propose new columns as needed to support the building taking into account the slope of the plot. Looking forward to see your design.

Hello Client! I have a question regarding terminology: in the context of this competition’s brief, when you mention “overhang”, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean separation from the property line? I may be misreading your specifications, but I seem to be confusing the exact intent behind the use of the term. Thank you for your time and help!

Hi Nicholas! Thanks for your query. The building is allowed to extend 2 meters beyond the property line as the land is considered maritime property owned by the government and is quite steep. However, there should be no pillars or columns placed outside the property line to support the overhang. Hope this clarifies. Looking forward to see your design. Thanks John
