Contest Brief
I created a simple mock up of an idea I had for a figure I want to include in a scientific paper I'm writing. I have attached an example of the figure oriented horizontally and vertically. I think vertical would be better for this figure, but not sure. Feel free to make both versions, but if you only make one please do the vertical orientation.
A few more details: this is a medical paper about the use of bone biopsies when treating/managing infections of the bone. Infection of the bone is called osteomyelitis or OM for short as you'll see in the figure. The idea is that when someone has an infection in their bone, the doctor will take a sample of the bone, also known as a biopsy, to see if any bacteria is growing in the bone sample. If they see bacteria, the patient is given antibiotics to treat the infection.
In the figure examples attached, the first two diagrams show segments of bone, and the green/black areas show infected areas in the bone. In the first one (possible osteomyelitis), the infection is not as severe so it should only show a small point of infection in the bone. The second diagram (hematogenous osteomyelitis) shows a more severe infection as you can see. The third diagram shows the foot bones with an infection in the outer toe bones. I've attached a few example illustrations of bone infection for reference, however your illustration should be original and should not look like a low-quality cartoon or clip art. Please animate/draw/design yourself. All three pictures should be illustrated with the same technique so they look consistent. My poor quality sketches are just to give you an idea. See attached files called "Example Bone Quality" for a couple examples of the style of the bone drawings I would like. Your work MUST BE ORIGINAL! This will be published in an online journal and all work must be created from scratch. Do NOT simply use existing illustrations.
Feel free to be creative and use your judgement on design, color, etc. It does not have to be black and white. But colors should be soft. Please do not use bright colors.
