Contest Brief

I need someone to provide me with the formula my supplier uses to calculate PRICE from SPEED A, SPEED B and TERM. It does not need to be EXACT, a margin of 50 in either direction is acceptable.

    Hello. I just submitted an entry which seems to be exact. I believe the 8 cases with non-zero errors (max absolute error below 33) are due to the precision I used in the coefficients in the calculations. I think there is no noise here, i.e. this is not a machine learning task.

    I wonder if the results by sambestsolutions are obtained by a universal formula or a number of specific if-else clauses. They are SO good that they could be either given by the EXACT formula used originally, or else they can't be used to predict the price for any parameters not already in this data set. Just a thought...

    shebrien is right, your supplier must have some other factors involved in his formula. For this reason one cannot reverse engineer it exactly, but my formula gives a good approximation. If you have more data like those you supplied, my formula could be made more accurate, or it could be optimize to have the highest accuracy for a certain range of Speed or Term, whichever you prefer.
