Contest Brief

Brief: Logo redesign for the Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Foundation
Background:
The Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Fund was initiated by Ryan Hodges who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014, at age 32. Ryan then became involved in raising money for cancer research through the Cancer Council’s Beat Cancer Tour. When the tour ceased to exist, Ryan started the Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Fund in order to continue fundraising for the Beat Cancer Project. Having a passion to cancer research – which has extended his own life – and great success with fundraising, in 2018 the Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Fund became the Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Foundation and was formally incorporated as a charity. The Foundation now has a Board and business plan and is in the initial set up phases – including setting up the marketing material required to implement the business plan. The logo forms a key part of that plan.
Target audience:
• Primary: SME businesses/business owners in South Australia
• Secondary: Research partners, general public
Issues with current design:
• The charity is now the Ryan Hodges Breathe Easy Foundation, not Fund.
Considerations:
• Although Ryan Hodges has lung cancer, the charity will be raising money for cancer research of all types, not specifically lung cancer.
• The term “Breathe Easy” is significant to Ryan because he has lung cancer, but for the purposes of the charity it also means that by furthering cancer research, those with cancer now or in the future will be able to breathe easy, knowing that there are suitable and effective treatments available. “By investing in research today, we are ensuring that those diagnosed in the future can breathe easy.”
• The symbol of the lung/breath ties in well to the logo, but can be open to interpretation given the charity is not solely focused on lung cancer.
• Colours to avoid: red, blue/yellow combined (too similar to the Cancer Council)
• Horizontal and vertical formats required
