Contest Brief

I am looking to be able to build what in my industry is called a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in Access (aka a Tree Function). If you know what a WBS is, you will have a big advantage. But please look at the attachment before you put time into this. The program should be able to number the Tasks automatically and there must be the ability to move a task or insert a task into the WBS as its being built (adding tasks out of sequence). It should be able to calculate the WBS Number.

Not getting many responses and not sure why. I did a little research and found a lot of information just by searching "MS Access Tree" in google. Looks like there is code already written for the Node function.

Someone asked for an example of the WBS. Obviously I don't have it in Access. Right now it is being done manually in Excel. Attached is an example

There is a Youtube Video (search MS Access Tree) presented by Andrew Vickers (its 58 min long). What he describes in this video is exactly what I need. The numbering of the WBS numbers... can easily be added to this. It gives you the node level and Parent so numbering from there is logical.

Will the user need a way to change the order of two entries that are under the same parent? If so, how would the user use the "Drop down" menu interface to request that?

Hello, I am unable to upload my entry, I have a zip file. It seems that the only entries allowed are image files PNG,JPG and GIF.

Do you need a drag-n-drop interface for moving the entries around?
If not, would the user "move" an entry by changing its parent field?

When an existing entry is moved, should the entries' children move with it?
(this question comes up in any tree-view implementation)

Do you need the sum-of-values computed as part of this software?

Do you want the contest entry submitted in the form of a protected Access file (so that you can test the solution, but not use the loosing entries, which would be unfair)

Is a Drag and Drop a possibility? I didn't know Access could do that or not. Though a drag and drop would mean that the other WBS would need to renumber themselves if the user dragged.

No to the Sum. As to the submittal, if youre more comfortable with a protected copy, I am fine with that, but at some point I will need to review and approve the final. But for selecting a winner, a protected works for me
