I run my own IT agency from Durban, South Africa, and have done work for clients in various South African provinces, and across the globe. I specialise in creating custom Microsoft Access databases and have worked at small business, corporate, and municipal levels. In Ethekwini I have assisted municipality departments as follows: - Electricity Department: Complaints Management System - Parks Department: Cemeteries Management System - Libraries Department: Database for research results - Parks Department: Palms Database In the corporate world I have created an invoicing system for an international shipping company, as well as a dock pass system. I am currently in negotiations with the same client for creating a job card system for one of their departments. Another project was to create a warehouse management system for one of the biggest fresh produce suppliers to major distributors. In between those projects I have assisted multiple small businesses in migrating from spreadsheets that no longer serve their growing businesses to efficient databases. I typically create the specifications with the clients, then build and test the system, and once it is ready, install it on their computers or network and train their staff. In some cases I am retained to further enhance the systems as the businesses grow, and assist the clients with ensuring that system rules are being followed by users and the databases are properly maintained. Apart from the software development side of my business, I also do transcription work. I specialize in delivering 100% accurate transcriptions in the shortest possible turn-around time, provided that the audio is clear. I use professional transcription software. Although my home language is Afrikaans, I am an advanced English speaker and hold a Master's degree in English. Apart from these two main categories of specialization, I offer software support in a number of desktop applications and have an active Helpline, offering support to private clients or companies who may not have in-house IT staff. One of the perks of working independently is the ability to take on new projects in a variety of fields. It enables me to apply what I have learned, but also to learn even more and improve my skills to the benefit of my customers.
