I am an experienced 3D Artist. My technical background combined with my artistic background allow me to work at more than one level of a project. UV's can make or break the texturing process. Depending on what application you plan on using and whether or not you will use tiled textures will be a factor in how I would lay out your UV's. From the looks of the model there are multiples of the same assets repeated which is pretty standard with models like this. I would need to know if you are sub divided at rendertime, want stacked UV's for the objects that are repeated, and what render engine you plan on using. Hi there... first, very nice model you got there. Would it be ok optimize the layout and have identical parts, like the solar cells, sharing the same UV space? Thus, instead of having the same pentagon shape many times in the layout, just having one which will apply to all solar cells? Same could be done for all shapes that repeat radially around the model.
