Objectives:
This project aims at investigating different algorithms for statistical analysis and prognosis of
renewable energy data such as wind speed and solar irradiance data .
Project Description:
Renewable energy such as wind and solar is deemed to play a key role in combating climate change and
energy crisis. In order to investigate the potentials and properties of renewable generations in Hong
Kong, it is necessary to analyze in details the statistics of historical data. On the other hand, to enable
smooth grid integration of renewable, known beforehand the possible renewable generation is essential
to sched-ule power system operation, though renewables are notorious for their high intermittence and
limited pre-dictability. In this project, the student is required to carry out detailed analysis of wind or
solar irradiance data of Hong Kong (and/or elsewhere), and investigate the feasibility and performance
of applying several time series forecasting models for solar or wind generation prognosis.
