I've been working at an Australian Silver Odoo partner for the last 18 months as a software developer. I have recently begun to branch out, using the skills I have gained to work on a number of extra projects on my own. I have worked with a number of different database technologies in the past, however I have not experienced Progress before. After doing some research, it looks like it can be read in a very similar fashion to most databases. My vision would be to have a new import screen that can operate in multiple passes. It would first scan the existing database for each table. You could then open this table and scan for the columns within this table. You then select the appropriate model in Odoo, at which point you can map the Progress columns to the Odoo columns. There are a number of extra features that would be needed in order to properly import some models. For example, on a product in Odoo, you must specify the product type (stockable product, consumable or service), but this data may not be present in your current database. To assist this, a default value could be specified on the import to satisfy Odoo's required fields. The second main issue is database IDs. For example, a customer is given an ID in the Progress database, but when they move to Odoo a new database ID will be given to them. The old database ID will need to be stored, as we will need to know which customer belongs to which sales etc. This would be solved by storing a map between the database IDs.

Hi... we have already done syncing at database level between Odoo and other external DB such as Mysql Oracle etc. We can surely write the application for you wherein you can supply the mapping and accordingly Odoo will take the data and ingest it. You cannot directly run a insert/update command on Odoo but it can take data and if it understands the mapping then accordingly it can generate flows to ingest that data. For example if the data is of customer then we can give it data set and make it automatically create contacts from the supplied data.
