Python Programmer to automate the task of constructing complex project directories

As a product engineer, I must follow a precise set of rules for organizing project data in an online database. I current cannot copy an entire directory structure (and contents) from one project to another... Rather, I must make each file of the directory one at a time, and by hand using a very slow user interface (online, I do not have direct access to the directory). I would like to have a reference directory saved local on my machine, and then, have a python script that will allow me to "point" to a location in the project database, then referencing my local directory, construct and copy each local folder to the online database, 1 folder and 1 file at a time. additional logic is also required to prevent deleting existing data on the network database, or duplicating data. right now this process in manual and slow because it must be done 1 step at a time. in addition, some time is required to "process" each action. you cannot work ahead of the on-line lag. I wish to have a piece of software developed that can automate this process that can run until all tasks are done after I define the inputs and the destination.
