Greetings, and thanks for looking over my bid.
I am Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Ampersand Books. Part of my job description is authorial hand-holding and guidance. We publish a literary quarterly called The Ampersand Review and, in the process, have published many a first-time author who brought us a piece that wasn't quite ready for prime-time, but with some coaching and ruthless edits, they eventually made it. The last short story collection we published involved a story that had to be rewritten seven times, and I myself have a short story that has been scrapped and started again a dozen times, at least.
My own writing mentor taught me that you can't really teach someone to write well. What you can do, however, is give them the tips they need to focus and realize what they can already do. Describing something like writing is difficult - it's nebulous and often dries up into vague slogans like "show, don't tell," that don't really help anyone. In my editorial role, I've learned how to give specific advice that really helps.
I have references available, should you like to see them, and samples of my own work. Feel free to inquire. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jason Cook
