PHP to XML script

Here is the current situation.

On server I have one folder that holds my scripts and has certain number of folders in it.

Each folder contains number of JPG images with following naming convention:

[login to view URL] (yyyymmdd is date untill product is walid).

And each folder has one "[login to view URL]" file that tell us where this folder belongs (in our case [login to view URL] contains name either parent A or parent B).

I need a PHP script that will do 2 things:

1. It will be called via CRON on 00 hours to go through all folders and delete each JPG file wich yyyymmdd has expired (where current date is greater that date in JPG name).

2. after that job is done it shud create XML called ([login to view URL]).

currently XML is structured like this:

Now what needs to be done here is that each folder at the end of its name must have a number that says how many JPG files are inside of it.

... and parent (wich is not folder but just level one category in XML) where these folders belong to need to have their cummulative value added to its name.

eg. this XML sample can look like this:

Empty folder naming shud be set as double quotes "" so i can easy change it to display zero ("0") if needed.

Notice that i live in Croatia and we have special characters like Č č Š š Ć ć Đ đ Ž ž so everything needs to be UTF-8
