Install SSL certificate on digital ocean droplet

I have a digital ocean droplet that I need to install an ssl security certificate on. I have a developer who's been working with me but has since moved and I've tried to follow tutorials to do it but i don't even know what kind of droplet i have so it's tricky.. I'm running a php based app on it at the moment if that's a help. I can change the app to request over https but I just need the ssl itself installed which I can help to get. I was planning on using a free 'let's encrypt' certificate as I don't need an auto renewal.
