EXCEL File Builder Window

This project is for adding a new feature to an existing windows desktop application called Quantum-XP. Q-XP is a Data Quality, Data Transformation and Product management software suite developed using Visual Studio 2012 C#. You will be provided a small version of this application to completed this project. This project is to add a new feature to allow users to build an EXCEL file from a QuantumXP imported file. The objective of this new feature is to allow users to quickly build EXCEL files according to a predefined template using data already imported into the application. This allows users of this application to map data from the applications SQL Server database tables to columns on an EXCEL spreadsheet. This feature is mostly designed for suppliers to communicate their product data to retailers who require data to be provided in proprietary EXCEL formats. Attached is detail specification that will provide a lot more details. Project must be developed in C# using visual studio. The developer selected for this project will be provided with a small version of Q-XP and will be provided some code. This is a pretty simple feature. 1. User would upload an EXCEL template which may contain one more worksheets. 2. User selects a worksheet from the EXCEL template. 3. User selects a business rule which contains the data for this worksheet. 4. User maps each cell column on the EXCEL template worksheet to an either source column form the business rule or a default value. 5. User saves the mapping configuration so it can be reused at a latter point. 6. User runs a preview using the first 100 records from each business rules selected. 7. User runs the full execution which will uses all the data from the selected business rules. User will then be prompt to specify a file name and location for the output file. EXCEL file should also be displayed. 8. Batch EXCEL generation Option. This option will allow the user to create an EXCEL file for each record in the business rule. This is typically used for EXCEL forms or EXCEL mailing address label generation. Note – Throughout this document we mention business rules which needs to be explained. Business rules are SQL Select commands that created by the Q-XP business rule manager. You will be provided the code to execute business rules and also list existing business rules. Below are the features that will be provided in this window: • Template Import Feature – User will be allowed import EXCEL templates that can consist of multiple worksheets, meta-data and cell formulas. • Cell Mapping Feature – For each worksheet, the user can optionally map either a source column from a business rule and default static value. Cells containing formulas cannot be mapped. • Business Rule Selection Feature – All available business rules will be displayed to the user. This code will be provided for you. User can select one business rule per worksheet. • Preview Feature – User can run a preview of current mappings. Preview will read in 100 records from each selected business rules and display the results to the window. • Execution Feature – User can run a full execution which will read in all data from all the business rules used. User will be prompted to specify a file name and location for result file. • Save Configuration – User can save the mapping configuration for later use and maintenance. • Batch EXCEL generation Option. This option will allow the user to create an EXCEL file for each record in the business rule. This is typically used for EXCEL forms or EXCEL mailing address label generation. • Validation Feature – We want to make sure a cell from the template is not mapped to column that does not exist on the business rule. This should not happen depending on how you design this feature but will not hurt to add it and should be very simple to do.
