Background:
American Automotive (AA) is a fast-growing Ohio-based automotive parts manufacturer, distributor and retailer that manufactures, assembles and supplies over 10,000 different parts and components to automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers or OEMs (e.g., Ford, GM, etc.) AA has over 2000 employees and has network of retail stores (similar to O'Reilly Auto Parts) throughout the Midwest, where car owners can buy a variety of automotive parts. While AA is currently US-based, the company expects to go global (expand into Asia, Europe & Latin America) over the next few years. AA is in the process of overhauling their old database systems and is looking to implement a best-in-class commercially available enterprise DBMS system.
You have just been hired at American Automotive (AA) as a Principal IT/Database Analyst. Your boss, Michael Davis, the IT director at AA has asked you to help him with the DBMS selection process. Specifically, he has asked you to:
Research 5 of the top commercially available DBMS systems
Analyze the pros & cons of each system as potential DBMS candidates for AA
Recommend one DBMS that would be the best fit for AA and provide key reasons / rationale for your recommendation. Your report / presentation will be presented to the AA executive management team, including the CIO, to get approval for budget and implementation.
You are required to prepare an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation that will be shared with the executive team. In your presentation, you will provide your understanding and assumptions of AA's requirements, a short DBMS overview and cover the 1-3 requirements above with a final recommendation.
This is an individual project. Your submission will be graded for content (don't just include 2-3 bullets for each system - detailed analysis is expected), style and quality of writing / presentation. Remember this report will be presented to the executive team at AA. This needs to be your individual analysis (i.e., DO NOT just copy and paste from other external sources.)
Feel free to make any assumptions as required.
By submitting this paper, you agree: (1) that you are submitting your paper to be used and stored as part of the SafeAssign™ services in accordance with the Blackboard Privacy Policy; (2) that your institution may use your paper in accordance with your institution's policies; and (3) that your use of SafeAssign will be without recourse against Blackboard Inc. and its affiliates.
