To start each trial within a sequence, participants had to touch a “Start” button with their thumb. The trial was over once they either had hit their target or a “Can’t reach” button, to indicate that it was not possible for them to hit the target. Each trial sequence consisted of subsequently hitting 3 targets (for the Action Bar ). For the adaptive versions, adaptation had to be triggered at the start of the trial sequence; the element then stayed in its adapted state until the start of the next trial sequence.
