Second Language Teaching: Notetaking / Feedback App
We are English Teachers. Specifically, we teach English as a second language. One of the duties of many English teachers is to take notes of things students say (utterances). These notes are used for giving advice to students so that they can improve their grammar and learn new vocabulary as well as to highlight positive / correct use of English.
Many teachers are still teaching in analog—using paper to take notes. These notes are then used for presenting feedback on a blackboard or whiteboard. Eventually, this information is transferred to some digital medium.
We hope that someone can create an app that digitizes this process and allows us to present the information quickly via a projector or on a second monitor. We understand that there are many ways to take notes with a computer, for example using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint in classes. However, for many teachers, these applications add unnecessary complexity to the process.
We hope to create an easy notetaking app, designed for Windows (initially—possibly creating an Android version in the future) that can be used to record student utterances, to tag them with certain attributes via touchscreen devices, and save them to be shown on a projector.
Ideally, this app would be digital pen friendly, and certain elements of the UI would be customizable. We would like to be able to type or use a stylus to input student utterances. We want toggleable UI elements that will tag the recorded utterance.
For example, a student says “It’s just my opinion, but I think going to university is a bad idea.”
We would like to type this utterance into our app. After that, we would like to click a box that tags this utterance with “Speaker/Say” and another that tags it with “Skill”.
In another example, a student asks “Do you think going to university is a good idea?”
In this case, we want to record the utterance and tag it with “Listener/Ask” and “Skill”
Ideally, we would like the UI elements label to be editable. We have a simple mockup for the first attempt at creating this app that is included in the proposal. We would also ideally like to have some way to link the recorded and tagged utterances to a spreadsheet, or to have them saved in a format that would allow them to be opened in any spreadsheet program—time stamped, of course. Finally, the app should be compatible with touchscreen devices.
We will include the mockup with diagrams and flows to give a clearer idea of the vision we have for this application.
PLEASE MENTION 'FEEDBACK' in reply so we know that you have read this through.
Thanks for taking the time and we look forward to choosing a freelancer for this project.
