Linus Torvalds. Let me explain my background. I started with opensuse, then ubuntu and now I mostly use Archlinux for my daily use on my computer. I put of its component from scratch trying different variations (I almost have a perfect workspace for myself). For my work I usually use ubuntu server on amazon aws but there are no super hard combinations. Just simple combinations for server and database management, sometimes put front server to offload traffic from the hardworking background servers. I usually don't need hard automation and when I do it is usually to specific and thus I mostly rely on python as my main solution. I never used SaltStack or others in your list, but willing to learn.
