THINKING THROUGH CRAFT BOOK COVER Create a total of 6 typographic studies (3 sets of pairs) for a book cover using the InDesign text file provided on (BBL), and selecting among 6 sans-serif typefaces. For each pair of compositions select a different typeface, but don’t use two different typefaces within each pair. To be considered are all the same criteria as before – information hierarchy, logical organization, narrative order – however due to the greater expressive and looser hierarchical demands of a book cover, there can be much greater emphasis on form rather than function. Make 3 compositional pairs, which share the same ‘theme’ (6 total): 1. Theme 1 (set of 2) One type size, one weight 2. Theme 2 (set of 2) Two type sizes, one weight 3. Theme 2 (set of 2) Two type sizes, two weights (including gray tints if desired) Rules and/or shapes can be used in one of your 3 themes YOU REQUIRED USING THE FOLLOWING FONTS: - Helvetica Neue (regular, Italic, bold) - Gill Sans (regular, Italic, bold) - Futura (regular, Italic, bold) - Bauhaus (regular, Italic, bold) - Franklin gothic (regular, Italic, bold) - Universe (regular, Italic, bold) THINGS TO CONSIDER & APPLY IN YOUR DESIGN: For each set of 2 compositions, articulate one thematic visual idea.
