So far, I have written 15,000 words with up to 18 short chapters. I need help with re-writing some chapters to incorporate my research notes (in bullet points) and possibly additional 3 or 4 new chapters (based on my research notes).
The book is a romance fantasy novel aimed for young adults.
The story was inspired by the famous Pied Piper of Hamelin - you know when a small town in Germany, Hameln was attacked by rats and the Pied Piper came to their rescue! Well he helped the town out by playing his flute and luring the pesky rats away. But the mayor and his cronies refused to pay up.
Angry, the Pied Piper lured all the town's children away forever.
And sadly this is where the story ends.
I have written an article on Buzzfeed about the creepy theories about what happened to the children here -[url removed, login to view]
If you are not familiar with the story you can search on facebook for the followthepiedpiper page there are some videos and notes about the story.
My book picks up where the story finished, and we see the Pied Piper a castaway on a magical island in the invisible ocean.
He struggles with the guilt of what happened to the children but sometimes he feels justified.
The Pied Piper actually sold the children to some travelling traders so that he could marry the woman of his dreams and leave happily ever after.
However some Pirates robbed him of his money and he now has to raise money again to get married.
He has two ravens, Munin and Odin, who fly around the world everyday and come to report to him where there is trouble so he can go rescue them and get paid. (this is how he knew about Hameln problems in the first place!)
But the only report he gets back is about the troubles in Hamelin! The town depended on its fisherman for food and commerce, but all the fish followed the Pied Piper to the Invisible Ocean, a eutopia for them.
For obvious reasons the Pied Piper does not want to go back to Hamelin - he is already the most wanted person in Germany and neighbouring countries.
The fish although happy in the Invisible Ocean, they miss the nice juicy worms they had in Hamelin (obviously to their loss) and are wondering if the Pied Piper can start a worm farm and feed them worms in exchange for some gems buried deep in the Invisible Ocean.
The Pied Piper wanting to get money and marry the woman of his dreams he agrees.
He is a person much loved by animals, the island he lives on is filled with them - think Neverland!
But he needs to sneak back into Hamelin in a disguise, buy the worms, special kind of worms, and get started and he will be on his way to getting the life he wants.
The fish trust him so they give him a huge haul to start off the deal.
The Pied Piper although uncertain of what lies ahead, he goes to Hameln and reaches the town by night.
He goes to the now famous Hameln's marketplace to buy the worms
He successfully buys the worms and things run smoothly until his little anthropomorphic rat friend in his pocket slips out - making the whole markets people panic thinking the rat plague has returned.
The Piper is immediately arrested.
He is sentenced to death. But the town wants to make a spectacle of his execution so they want to hire the famous executioner, Albert from England. It will take some weeks before he arrives - while the Pied Piper is in prison, he falls in love with Sophia, a blind but beautiful only child of the Munchkins family.
Sophia lost her older sister, Madeleine, to the Pied Piper when he lured the children away. This affected Mrs Munchkin so much that she became mentally ill and Sophia had to care for her for a long time affecting her chances of getting married.
The main focus of the book is on this idea that these two unlikely people, the Pied Piper and Sophia will fall in love.
