Chemist chemical synthesis feasibility patent review dichroic dyes for lcds

You have a Masters or PHD in Chemistry.

You like drawing chemical structures and searching for them on the internet (I do too!)

We have about 20 patents about dichroic dyes.

(Note that most of these dyes date from 1980, and are now part of the public domain.)

This easy project reviews the patents and estimates the feasability of synthesizing the dyes.

The primary challenge is that these dyes are really obscure, really arcane. In many instances these dyes are so obscure that they are not included in CA.

Likwise the precursor chemicals are often not stock chemicals. The precursors need to be synthesized first, then the dyes.

You will review the dyes and will analyze them for feasability, given the usual feasability considerations and more :

Waste disposal cost

Chemist safety

Precursor materials safety

End product consumer toxicity

Labor cost to synthesize

Dye order parameter

Yield

Compatible with the liquid crystal host

You may write pithy comments about each individual dye product on to the patent sheets for efficiency. I do not need a formal report prepared. Your comments written directly onto the actual patent sheets should be sufficient.

You will complete the project within 14 days of acceptance.
