Hello,
My name is Vladimir and I'm an indie game developer from Moscow, Russia. I have three years of experience in Unity development.
One of the projects I've worked on was an underwater robot simulator (here is a wip demo video: [login to view URL]). For this project I've created a flexible model of an acoustic sonar - you can see the resulting picture on 04:08. [login to view URL] - here is a gif demonstration of the sonar operation (read beams are only visible in Debug mode).
This model calculated the intensity of acoustic signals based on the material of the surface being scanned, angle between the beam and the surface normal and sonar settings such as beam width, intensity and displacement noise. I have visualized this data with a custom UGUI interface with zoom, gain and other basic options. I think it is very similar to a laser scanner, so it won't be a problem for me to program it.
Unfortunately, I've never written a plugin for Unity. Is this a mandatory requirement? I can write a well commented C# source code for the scanner model and supply prefabs. Are you interested? If so, please tell me more about your project and the output data format you would like to get from this scanner. I would like to know the characteristics range of the real laser sonars you'd like to simulate and if possible, see some manuals. Deadline could be adjusted.
