Need help to understand bitcoin and how mining really works. So i can understand the proof of work concept it uses

Hello All, I need some help with some stuff, the task should be simple it is to be done in C. You need to know about Bitcoin and How minning works I need a simple C program that will use RPC to bitcoin client to get work (block) to mine, The program will connect to bitcoin RPC get a block to mine, Then it will try to mine it, submiting it on sucess. The code needs to be well documented so I can understand exactly how mining and bitcoins Proof Of Work really works. You can use opensource code as long as it can be built under linux/and windows. (like libcurl)
