I need to find a source of fabric suitable for athletic wear with very specific properties, and I need to be able to buy prototyping quantities (under 10 yards) for testing. The fabric must have the following properties: 1) it must be breathable and suitable for wearing next to the skin; 2) the fabric must not stretch along the primary axis, and should be relatively stiff along this axis; 3) orthogonal to the primary axis, the fabric should be flexible and have a fair amount of stretch. If you can find something like lycra/spandex that has rigid unstretchable fibers along one axis, then you've found what I need. Note - jumbo spandex claims to stretch only along one axis, but it actually does stretch a fair amount orthogonal to the stretchy axis. I need something that absolutely does not stretch along this axis. Stretch denim is a close approximation, but I need something with a little more stretch.
