comms port help

I have a personal project for interfacing a sensor through the coms port in VB. I cant seem to get it to interface correctly. Once we get all the data the ASII string needs to be split up and then put in to seperate columns then saved to a comma delimited dat file so i can import it to excel. It is more complicated than that. I can view the outputted data in hyperlink and VB but it doesnt come in correctly in vb when i add it in to a list box. This is done in VB5.
