1. Goals * Write a functional chat program. * Gain practice in using the select call and byte packing. * Note that although Python supplies higher level constructs for supporting the use of multiple sockets such as asyncore and socketserver, you are not allowed to use them for this project; though you may want to model you program on a similar paradigm and exploit the object oriented capabilities of Python. 2. Introduction In labs 3 and 4 you were given the opportunity to play around with both a peer to peer and a client/server based chat program. For this assignment we're going to combine the two different paradigms, basically capitalizing on the strengths of both approaches. For this assignment you will write two programs, one program will implement a peer to peer chat program ([login to view URL]), the other will act as a name server ([login to view URL]) which the other program will consult to find out information about who else is also using the chat program and how to contact them. Each program will count as one of the programming assignments for the course. Of the 15 percent alloted for the programming assignments in the syllabus, the Name Server ( [login to view URL] ) will account for 6 percent and the Chat Client ( [login to view URL] ) will account for 9 percent. ( The Chat Client is slightly more difficult ) The two programs are inherently related, but to make sure that doing well on one of the assignments is not contingent upon doing well on the other, byte compiled versions of the two programs will be released so that you may test each program against a working version of the other. 3. The Chat Client3.1 Invocation The Chat Client shall be invoked with the following command line: **$ python [login to view URL]** Where ***name_server_ip*** and ***name_server_port*** are the IP address ( or hostname ) and port where the Name Server is running, and ***client_port*** is the port on the local computer that the Chat Client will be listening for connections on. If the program is invoked improperly, or one or more of the parameters are of the wrong type, a help message should be displayed and the program should gracefully exit. there is more but I cannot fit it here so when i get bids i will give you the rest ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law.
