Commerce Elavon module not processing payments

I have used Drupal Commerce to implement an online payment system. It works using the Drupal Commerce Example Payment gateway. When I enable the Commerce Elavon payment gateway, there are no error messages, but the payment is not passed to Elavon Virtual Merchant. The payment module appears to do nothing.
