The winning coder will write or rewrite an applet such as WinPut: <[login to view URL]> which provides a dialog box for text input from an end user. The captured text or input string is then made available to be piped (redirected) to a file or another application.
Currently, we are using WinPut from the website provided above and using it in a batch file to append data to an existing text file.
example:
Winput "SET Name=$input" "Enter Sample Text" >> [login to view URL]
We are also using this applet to redirect data to the "[login to view URL]" program found in the XP Resource Toolkit
example:
Winput "SET Name=$input" "Enter Sample Text" | clip
The winning coder will rewrite the WinPut applet to include the following functionality:
1. Maintain current command line arguments of WinPut
2. Maintain "Always On Top" window position
3. Change the input area to be multi-line (at least 5 lines), scrollable (as text is entered) and support line breaks (or enter key).
4. Include a Character Count indicator at the bottom right of the input area dialog window
5. Modify the termination key via a command line switch or have it hard coded to use a key other than enter (such as right alt)
6. Make text piped (redirected) to another file or application to retain capitalization and support all special characters
7. The application must be a single executable that does not require installation and does not write any settings to the registry
WinPut is available as a free download from <[login to view URL]> for your review.
