Convert a standardized Excel CSV file into more usable data. Create a repeatable process (macro) to output specified statistics from this variable-sized file. Bonus target of being able to combine multiple files, or results created from past files.
I have a monitoring system that records data every two seconds in the form of a CSV file. I have to save the file manually, so the file's size and number of rows can vary widely (sometimes many days worth of data in one file). I need to repeatedly turn these CSV files into meaningful statistics.
The calculations I need include:
Duration between spikes
Duration of spikes
Spikes per hour
Average spikes per hour
Spikes per day
Average spikes per day
Average duration of spikes per hour
Average duration of spikes per day
Average duration between spikes per hour
Average duration between spikes per day
Peak/minimum spikes per hour
Peak/minimum spikes per day
Peak/minimum duration of spikes per hour
Peak/minimum duration of spikes per day
Peak/minimum duration between spikes per hour
Peak/minimum duration between spikes per day
The file has a lot of excess data that can be removed, including a header and duplicate data at the bottom of the file. Columns B and D in the top set of data are the useful data.
Column D is the time. A 'spike' is when the value of the data in column B jumps above 200 (or reads as OL). A 'duration' is the length of time column B's data stays close to the same. 'Duration of spike' would be the length of time the data is above 200 (or reads OL). 'Duration between spikes' would be the length of time the data is below 200.
Because these files represent historical data, I would like to make it as easy as possible to combine data from multiple files to view long-term trends, and to be able to report on specific time frames that may span multiple files.
The results need to be easy to graph.
