Concept mapping as tools for teaching Mathematics

Content Table

Using concept maps as research tools in different ways has been found productive in a longitudinal study on student teachers’ development of mathematical concepts. Maps were used both in a priori analyses of groups of concepts, that are part of content in courses, and as a tool for students to express their conceptions of functions, equations and so on.

A concept map is a visual tool for representing knowledge relationships. In a concept map lines are drawn between pairs of Concepts to denote relationships between concepts. Linking words on the lines indicate how pairs of concepts are related. In this way, propositions indicating particular relationships between concepts can be discerned. Concept mapping has frequently been used as a pedagogical tool to help students “learn more meaningfully” and form a “conceptual understanding of the subject”.

Concept maps are graphical tools that have been used in all facets of education and training for organizing and representing knowledge. When learners build concept maps, meaningful learning is facilitated.

Above you see some definitions of Concept Mapping. This semester we are planning using concept mapping methods share two different classes. We will apply some tests and questionnaire on that different classes and observe them.
